Big Bear Shakes his Head and Wages His Tail
For the fifth exercise we will again do a horse stance and works the heart meridian. Start with your hands at your side palms in towards the thighs, then take a step out to the left with your left foot to double should width. You will then place your palms on your knees with the fingers pointing in and your thumbs on the outside of your thighs.
Focus on the Bubbling springs on the soles of your feet and think of sinking the Qi to your feet. Exhale as you press down heavily with your left hand on your left leg and sink your weight into your left leg, you will bend your left elbow . Extend you head, spine and right leg as you shift your body to the left. The head, neck, and spine should be kept straight. Hold this position for about 3 seconds, then exhale as you return your body to the centre.
Repeat the above process to the right. Again holding this position for 3 seconds. Repeat twelve times in each direction.
This works the lungs. When you press down with one hand and bend the body to that side, you are stretching the other side the compressing the chest on one side and expanding it on the other. The action of your hands on the legs with the thumbs in expands the chest.
