Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade
Touching the Toes and Bending Backwards.
Step your left foot back towards the centre to create a shoulder width stance. Stand in the opening stance with your hands at your sides palms in. Inhale as you bring your hands up to your chest turning the palms up and then up above your head with the palms still facing upward. Hold this position for 3 seconds. Exhale as you bend forward extending your arms and bending to hold your feet. You can pull your hands up slightly so you are stretching your whole body. Your focus will be on the bubbling springs. Stay there for 3 seconds and then slowly straighten up to the starting position. I inhale as I rise to the starting position and then exhale before I begin again. Do sixteen of these.
This bending forward will tense the back muscles and restrict the flow of Qi from the kidney, when you straighten you will resume this flow of energy. This exercise is good for the kidneys, the back muscles and the spine. When you straighten and stretch up you are focusing your energy up through your feet and arms as you extend the whole body.
